1) Yesterday was my 32nd birthday
2) My son’s birthday is two days after me
3) If I had my drumset, I’d rock a fat metal jam, or some fussion, modern jazz, rock…funk…whatever…
4) I have NOT seen Napoleon Dynamite
5) I have allergies real bad right now
6) I don’t dig Reformed Theology at all…
7) I’ve never read so much as one article from Arminius and don’t even know what he taught (that’s why I tell people I’m not Arminian, just Born Again)
I want to learn to play guitar so I can finally one day write all the awesome music that I hear in my head and record all the tracks myself, i.e. guitars, bass, drums, vocals….(I guess that would be another random thing about me…I can sing a little)
So now I guess I’m supposed to tag someone. I’ll hit TJ Scott.
Shweet,
mark jr.

Happy birthday!!
You can use all kinds of faces on your blog – go to http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/06/04/what-smilies-can-i-use/ to learn how!
At your age (just a tad younger than me) you should see Napolean Dynamite. It’s so dumb it’s funny – there are so many things that are a throwback to the 80’s that people our age can laugh about.
Those were great random things!

Happy Birthday!
Glad you don’t hate the Calvinists. Though I am not sure I would classify as one. 32? Ishh, you all are just babies.

Let me restate that… I wish I had such spiritual maturity at that age-I’m 45.

Alright Mark Jr.,
Just one thing that ticked me off by what you said above and maybe I am missunderstanding you. You said you don’t need someone to give you theology except God himself. But you are teaching here. You are teaching and correcting (and doing a very excellant job of it I must say) those who are reading your blog. We all need help to rightly divide the word of truth. I think I understand what you were saying above. But you are very diligent with rightly dividing the word. Others may not be *ahem* there are a lot of people out there as you know Mark Jr. who think they have no need for anyone to teach them and they are missing the mark, interpreting out of context etc. It can be very dangerous to encourage someone else who may be reading this blog that no man need teach them theology. Again I think I know what YOU mean and I agree with you BUT would not encourage others who may not be so discerning or Bible learned as you to have that attitude.
OK I feel better. goodnight.

Mary, Mary…
Teaching isn’t the same as “giving” someone their theology. It’s okay to teach and learn. But to say, “what I have taught is what you must believe” is not right. I learn from lots of folks.
I didn’t say I don’t need a man to instruct, I said I don’t need a man to set forth his own dogma and make it gospel truth and proclaim that I must adhere to it or be burnt alive/beheaded/run out of town/imprisoned/have my property confiscated. When an “historical, orthodox christianity” creates that, it is from man and I will not let anyone tell me that I MUST adhere to it.
So there is a difference between learning from many different thought pools and having one of those thought pools require your undying allegiance. That I reject categorically.
Capehce?

ok,
i understand and agree. i misunderstood what you were saying. i was reading an article from Art Katz this morning “Apostolic Conversion” i think it is called and he was talking about Saul and how Saul thought he was doing the will of God by persecuting the heretics….and then God had to shatter his misguided understanding.
So this has been whirling in my head-that many of us (Art said this not me) are doing the same thing. We are going about our religious business thinking we are doing God a service when He needs to shatter our categories where we come to the place where we say “What would you have me to do, Lord?” So this just confirms what I was reading.
And I understand what you are saying many a man of God may have thought he was performing the duty of God with zeal (as you said-killing off the heretics) when he was really missing the mark.
ok I understand what you are saying. I am just beginning to understand how men through church history were misguided.
Peace

Dude, I remember that shirt!
For the rest of you who aren’t “in the know”, I had a t-shirt that had a goat on it with a bubble gum bubble coming out of its butt and a caption underneath that said, “Don’t swallow gum”.
My wife hated it. One of my kids from the youth group gave it to me on my birthday. It was special to my heart!

That shirt was so funny. Do you still have it?
I’m glad I’m “in the know”, i hate not knowing

No. It got to small cuz I’m so buff. I had to get rid of it cuz chics were all over me man.
Nah, I just got rid of it. It was too small though. Looked silly on me. But it was hilarious.
It looked similar to this, only it was a goat:
